At Kuka Studios, we love a project with a purpose. The East Ayrshire Coalfield Environment Initiative (EACEI) does vital work—restoring peatlands, enhancing biodiversity, and reconnecting local communities with the rugged beauty of the coalfield landscape.
But an environmental initiative is only as strong as its ability to engage the community. Their digital presence needed to move beyond a simple “about us” page and become a living resource for volunteers, partners, and the public.
The Mission: Turning Data into Discovery
The challenge for the new CEI site was balance. We had to combine technical environmental reporting with high-impact visual storytelling.
- Visual Storytelling: The coalfield landscape is unique. We moved away from cluttered layouts to a design that lets the imagery lead. If you want people to care about peatland restoration, you have to show them why it matters.
- Mapping the Impact: EACEI manages multiple projects across East Ayrshire. We streamlined the information architecture so that users can easily find specific initiatives—whether it’s the “Cumnock Living Landscape” or local “BioBlitz” events—without getting lost in the weeds.
- Community Engagement: We’ve made it easier than ever for locals to get involved. From clear calls-to-action for volunteering to a streamlined news section, the site is built to turn “visitors” into “participants.”
- A Scalable Foundation: Built on a platform that the CEI team can update themselves, the site is designed to grow as new restoration projects are funded. No more waiting on a developer to post a project update or a new set of data.
The Result: A Digital Ecosystem for East Ayrshire
The new EACEI site is more than just a fresh coat of paint. It’s a professional, accessible, and high-performance tool that reflects the scale of the work being done in the East Ayrshire landscape.
We’ve replaced a static presence with a dynamic hub that’s ready to support the next decade of environmental restoration.
